Important Notice Advance Tax on Electricity Bills

We hope this message finds you well. We would like to inform you about a recent development regarding advance tax on electricity bills. As of July 1, 2023, an advance tax rate of 7.5% will be applied to the gross amount of your electricity bill if it exceeds Rs. 25,000 per month. This change is in accordance with Section 235 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
Here are some key points to note regarding this advance tax: Applicability: This advance tax is applicable to every customer of electricity whose monthly electricity bill exceeds Rs. 25,000.
Exemption for Tax Filers: Customers who are tax filers, and whose names are included in the Active Taxpayer List (ATL) of Income Tax, are exempt from this advance tax. If you are a tax filer, please ensure your name is in the ATL.
ATL Status Updation: If you are a tax filer but have not yet updated your ATL status with our records, it is essential to do so to claim the exemption from the advance tax. To update your status, please visit our Billing office with the necessary documentation.
